Hi Chris,
ReplyDeleteI have emailed you a few times for your advise on some contracting issues, and you've always been great-very helpful. I come here often, but never wrote on your blog. You've got almost 5400 visitors, but only a couple of followers. Why aren't more people writing to thank you or respond to your answers when they ask questions?
I realized it wasn't on purpose probably, but like me, since you ask nothing-I MEAN NOTHING- in terms of registering, providing contact info or even asking visitors to sign your blog or comment, plus you give your PERSONAL EMAIL AND PHONE NUMBER, accept no donations, etc.,
As a contractor, I guess it was easier to email you privately with my questions--since people wouldn't see me asking for help since I SHOULD KNOW ALL THE ANSWERS, right? Never thought about it-but it makes sense. I have seen a few entries, one lady wrote about your help when they wanted to tile their own bathroom floor. She said you told her materials, where to get them, the type of tile that would work, and step-by-step instructions over the phone spanning two weeks!!!! A couple of businesses wrote about how great your blog was and that you were the REAL deal, and left their names, businesses, addresses, etc. That was cool. So here I am, doing what I should have been doing all along. Hopefully others will follow suit! Some of us just need a little nudge to THINK about others, and appreciate what they do, so thank you SO MUCH!
For a change of pace, I want to offer YOU some free advice, good advice my experience as a business owner that has worked well for me, and I think will help your site gain more guest involvement and hopefully give you a little back in terms of compensation for all the free time and advise you give to so many. Ask your visitors to at least register on your blog so you can show reader numbers, and then let them roam freely, as they do now. It's so awesome you do all this for genuine reasons-to give back and help people, but I've found if you do not put SOME value-some requirement to utilize your services-your years and years of experience, and your honest, detailed responses, people take advantage (like me, but not purposely-without thinking). Grab names if you want. Maybe not list your private email/phone number. Or at least make those emails and phone calls part of the blog.
Regardless man, you offer so much for absolutely NOTHING, so asking people to at least write up on the blog and share their experiences with Tile Excellence is the least you can do (I can do). I saw a reader who suggested you add a "donation" button on this site for those of us who want to make a contribution. I know you don't do it for money--but think of it this way; if you accept a little bit here and there, maybe you could help MORE people by having a little bit more time to write on your blog. With your busy company and talking people free through their projects, or answering questions via email, you can't probably write here as much as you'd like. So by letting us do what we really want to do-show our appreciation just a little bit-you are actually helping people! At least give people who want to give something the option, and they (I) won't feel guilty, and they can feel good too! So readers--PAY ATTENTION. If you are here, take a minute and write up what you thought of this site. Ask questions here, not via email. If Chris helps you with a project, either here, email or by phone, take some time and share your experience! It's the least you can do! Tell your friends, share his link on FB or twitter! C'mon! At least "follow" him or like him on FB. Thanks for all you've done and continue to do, Chris. Your'e a hell of a tile guy, and a real decent and honest human being. Hope this helps you out! Woah! I'm really digging the template/theme of this website. It's simple, yet effective.
ReplyDeleteA lot of times it's very difficult to get that "perfect balance" between superb usability and visual appearance. I must say that you've done
a awesome job with this. Additionally, the blog loads very fast
for me on Chrome. Outstanding Blog!
