Hi Everyone,
I want to thank you all again for your patience during this transitional time. In case you aren't sure what that means, it means that Tile Excellence, the local tile installation company owned by Chris Lawson (ask chris) out of Gloucester, MA will continue sharing his blog, "ask chris", but as originally planned, we have been gathering the names and requests of other tile contractors (installers, artists, international tile companies, etc.) in order to hear their viewpoints and explain their niches. Chris is so overwhelmed with work (good stuff) that he often has no time (or energy) to post on his blog. I continue finding ways to help him while on the jobsite to get posts up from there, but sometimes it's challenging for him to use these apps and tools. He does seem to like the voice/text to blog post feature, and he can upload pictures as well. That's after I finally convinced him to get an android phone; years of convincing. Anyways, he is willing to give it a shot, so you may have seen a few "test" posts (from me) and once every bug is worked out, Chris will attempt his first post, which he's very excited about.
Because when I created this site over two years ago (I built his original Tile Excellence.com site back in 2010), the goal was to provide DIY and consumer help/advice for tile installation projects. It's really taken off from there and it's really nearly impossible to manage alone, so we have some volunteers from China actually helping us out, and we've allowed some advertisers hoping to defray costs of maintaining and updating site. Due to both Chris's original website and then this DIY consumer blog addition, Chris has not only been receiving 100% of his new work from these two sites, but often a waiting list, and he can now pick and chose his jobs and locations-which is a great benefit to someone who has spent much of his career traveling hours away for a tile job. He can also run specials on projects he loves-backsplashes and pool tile repair, and due to gained experience, I can focus and direct traffic so he gets those types of jobs. Good stuff, but now leaves more room for other similar "chris" type contractors to share their stories and insights. Often Chris ruffles feathers, and he does realize there are other perspectives (all wrong of course-only kidding :)) then his, and he ...welcomes their input. I believe this site should offer consumers well rounded and all inclusive experiences, opinions, advice, how-to's on all tile and small business related topics, providing our readers with multiple viewpoints. We always encourage this site to be used as PART of their research as some topics can be controversial, costly or outright right/wrong, and we don't claim to be THE expert-just the experience of Tile Excellence over 30+ years.
So, Tile Excellence, Inc., will be more like an umbrella of all things tile and all contractors related. We hope to become a valuable resources for new readers and loyal followers alike. I continue to work on the glossary, adding links and resources for our readers to learn more or to find deals on tile related products, but again, all very time consuming and a process.
Chris will be adding a new post soon. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me with any suggestions, things you'd like to see, feedback, guest blog suggestions, links, sites, anything you want to share that can somehow enhance this site for reader enjoyment and education as well as other small businesses and contractors wanting to share their special skills and talents.
