I ask you what would you rather have inside your shower Wood or concrete?Seems like a no brainer to me.But surprisingly most tile guys are making their inside tile benches out of wood framing only because its easy. But the price of wood is high and wood is greatly effected by water.Concrete blocks on the other hand are very cheap and last forever inside your shower.Cost effective and long lasting
concrete block is the only way to go when a bench is built inside a shower. So when getting quotes to build your shower insist on concrete benches in your shower and If your tile guy cant do it find someone who can and get a 100+ year bench in your shower

I just built a corner ledge out of block. I built it on top of my final slope and used type s motor with some sand. I am going back to use thinset now to set my top durock top and will thinset all edges. What I didn't do is thin set motor to floor or the front of the block. I figured that will get thinset when I tile. I filled in spaces with pcs of block and motor. It looks great but as a diyer told the wife to be careful as it may slide off the wall? Lol hope not.
ReplyDeleteI dont think you should have a problem. But as added insurance you could pour some thin set inside the hollow of your blocks and that would bind them to your concrete floor from the inside of the block. mix your thinset kinda slurry like honey or pancake better and just pour it inside the hollow of your block that will assure your blocks never move and will bind then to your floor Chris good luck I dont believe you have any worries but as I said added insurance
